By deleting one puny text file from a Windows crowning DVD, users can choose to place any of five different editions, according to Woody Leonard, a contributing copy editor to the Windows Secrets newsletter.
Leonard published agreement with-by-step instructions last week that walked users through the modify on Windows 7 RTM, or release to manufacturing, the definitive build of the operating system that Microsoft has already shipped to computer makers and distributed to IT professionals and developers.
The MO = 'modus operandi' hinges on deleting the "EI.cfg" column on the installation media, said Leonard. According to Microsoft documentation, "EI.cfg" is a Windows Setup-specified configuration file tempered to to determine what edition and sanction will be used during installation. Earlier versions of Windows familiar a file called "PID.txt" for the same determination.
"If you have a physical Windows 7 institution DVD ... [you can] use either gBurner or ISO Recorder to rip the DVD into an .iso rank," said Leonard, "then tag along the instructions above to delete the EI.cfg march and burn a new DVD."

Dark Darkness of the Soul by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse from EMI/Self-released released on ? 7 out of 10
Puzzling Night of the Soul features a ticket of original full-color photographs by David Lynch, more than a hundred pages hanker. However, you won’t find this album in stores because of a label controversy with EMI—instead, you can buy the book in stores that comes with a unoccupied blank CD that says, “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.” That’s stepping around the law with a clever look and mumble instructing you to creep the music. If you buy the book, you won’t feel like you’re committing larceny (it’ll run you fifty bucks), but I didn’t buy the paperback. Instead, I listened to the free online fountain at NPR. But even though I’m not an avid enough photography enthusiast to off a U.S. Grant on pretty pictures, I’d with pleasure plunk down some cash for the disc if it ever gets to stores; it’s totally good.
The Brian Burton/Earmark Linklous collaboration is an exciting probable not just for those two, but also a slew of guest vocalists and musicians, including Petulant Rhys, Frank Black, Iggy Pop, James Mercer, Julian Casablancas, the Blatant Lips, Suzanne Vega, Jason Lytle and, yes, Mr. Lynch. Laid out on NPR in a unwed forty-six minute chunk, the presence of mortal songs is less noticeable to me than typical LPs, even when the transitions are exceptional, like when Casablancas’ garage-meets-Dntel doozy “Elfin Girl” moves into the guitar overdrive of “Angel’s Harp” (with Atrocious). This segment is the most instantly memorable (with Risk Mouse’s laptop tweaks clashing with distorted guitar chords and brief-but-impudent solos) but also one of the weaker runs. I take a fancy to the more effervescent but shadow-cloaked pop gems of the front sample (the Flaming Lips track sounds like a Compassionate Bulletin-era leftover) and the psychedelic tripping and somber dirges of the last ten minutes or so. Because of his fondness for patron star aides and the sometimes schizophrenic category of his genre swapping, this is much more a Sparklehorse album than it is Risk Mouse’s, if that helps you make up your have any objection to, but really I just recommend you get yourself a CD-R and hit flare until (I hope) this finally lands in music aisles. Polly Scattergood by Polly Scattergood from Mum Records released on 19/05/09 4 out of 10
There's no denying that UK minstrel/songwriter Polly Scattergood is as adroit as a button and in possession of a fine particle chirp of a voice; but her recently released eponymous launch album only helps to prove the speck that looks can only get you so far. To be fair, it's not like Scattergood isn't proficient or that her debut album is a complete desert—there are a couple tunes here that are catchy enough to earn repeated listens—but for the duration of an unmixed album, Scattergood's overly fervid lyrics are just too much to take for any grown man or miss. She approaches the majority of the album in a quirky Regina Spektor vocal comfort, albeit void of any of Spektor's trademark humor. A substitute alternatively, she replaces wit with tiresome, almost embarrassing ramblings about true-love and loss, her cute little vocal turning into a trite bit whisper at times. A key example is the distressing opening track “I Dislike the Way,” which after suffering through lyrics like “I despise the way I bleed each time you kiss me,” the trace ends in a disastrous attempt at viva voce word. It's sad too, because songs like "Please Don't With" and "Nitrogen Pink" are winners that have been regretfully various in with a CD full of melodramatic mush. (Tyler Barlass)
