'Thirtysomething' ages well

When thirtysomething premiered on ABC in 1987, I was thirtysomething.

The show spoke to me in countless ways, from its purpose of the challenges of parenthood to how matured children deal with their parents, to balancing employment dreams with economic pressures, to the strict edges of its arguments and the sweetness of expressions of enjoyment.

Looking at the show again, all these years later, via DVD, I found a show that — however much I and the characters have moved on — still brims with actuality.

You can see that Tuesday when DVD shelves suppress a delay thirtysomething: The Complete First Available (Shout! Factory, 21 episodes, six discs, $59.99). It's a very satisfyingly package, including a booklet, commentaries on nine episodes, a quota have one's say about the making of the show, with the producers, writers and all the key pitch members. Another segment talks about article lines from later seasons. (It has a notification that, if you don't know the later seasons, you should not guard.)
