'thirtysomething' DVD release prompts...

Sally: To me, "thirtysomething" was too often about a store of self-indulgent whiners who had no fancy how good they had it, complaining their way from one chapter to the next. Even joyous moments seemed to institute out the worst in this crew, and no favourable event went unmissed. You could almost hear them muttering, "Oh no, spark of life is going well, what a nightmare!"
This may have been the stereotype of my propagation as spoiled yuppies for whom nothing was ever worth enough, but it certainly didn't describe the people I knew, most of whom were getting on with their lives with a lot more intent and a lot less angst. Of course we had our piece of ambivalence and self-incredulity, but we still managed to appreciate the well-behaved things that came our way.
So how be a question of I enjoyed the complete first mellow just released on DVD? Easygoing. I never saw it before.
By the time I discovered the show in the stomach of its four-year run, the plot lines were darker (cancer, for one) and the brooding almost intolerable. Especially so with Hope, who evidently felt cursed by her good, loving husband, delightful baby, loyal friends and big abode. The only thing that kept me watching was Ken Olin as Confidence's husband, who was so great-looking it almost made up for her -- all of them, positively -- being such pains in the neck. But the first ready was different, and it came as a bulletin.
