With the increasing use of technology in schooling, the importance of a school's media center continues to bear. The Florida Association for Media in Course of study has recognized the media center at Sand Pine Fundamental in Wesley Chapel as one of 26 to foregather its highest standards. Media professional Belinda Pope spoke with the Times about the presentation and the changing role of what the primary system used to call libraries.
What is a Florida Power Library, and why did you demand to have one?
Last year was the inaugural year for that dispose of, and it all came about because of our district self-assessment process that we have. Our school did veritable well on that, so the district personnel sort of challenged us to go for it. Because they knew it was coming up.
So it means you have the most with the exception of library ever?
Well, it is to see how well we are working with our teachers. The whole motivation behind it is to beat the drum for collaboration in our state in place of of the old fashioned, what you would think of a Alma Mater librarian, who just sat and checked out books. We are full-on occasion instructional employees K-12, teachers, and we unqualifiedly need to be collaborating with our classroom teachers to broaden student achievement. It's been shown that (with) excellently staffed and well stocked and well managed media centers, those students account higher on tests, they go better on information literacy skills and are more well-skilled at technology.
